Hunting Trips

IMG_1396Welcome to Northwest Colorado, home of the Flat Tops!

Our hunting, like the rest of the services, starts horseback. Whether you want one of our Drop Camps or just dropped off at your own location, we take you in with horses and a pack string. Hunts are offered for Archery, Muzzleloader, and first, second, and third Rifle Seasons. All the hunts, we feel, have a high level of service whether it is the ride in, ride out, packing of equipment, or pack out of game.

We hunt all three of the Marvine Drainages, east, main and west, at camp locations ranging from 4 to 8 miles in from the campground, elevations from 9,000 to 10,300 feet. All camps are in the Flattop Wilderness, GMU 24. Our drop camps are in the middle of Elk Country, if the elk are talking when you are there, you will hear them from camp. Camps are at altitude, the horses bringing you in will do most of the climbing, you can hunt from camp a 1/4 mile out or several miles, you choose.

Our drop camp locations are Guthrie Lake, Frosty Lake, Smith/Jones, Lilly Pond, Oyster Lake, or Murphey Lake to name several and are situated several miles from any other outfitters camp. All will have a spacey wall tent complete with wood stove, camp water and fire wood on site and nearby, all the camp equipment will be available for cooking and sleeping, you bring only your clothes, sleeping bag, personal gear and food. We encourage you to bring what you want to have a comfortable camp. Communication is limited in the backcountry so we recommend that you rent or buy a satellite phone or texting device to contact us if you bag an elk! We will check on you as we can. Each hunt is for a minimum of five hunting days plus the travel days, so a hunt is a minimum of 7 days. The pricing includes the ride/pack in, out, use of camp and pack out of trail ready game.

While we feel most of the country we hunt can be effectively hunted from a drop camp, especially with a couple of years of area experience, we will work with you on a guided hunt at your request. We have a limited number of guides we are comfortable will do you an excellent job, these guides will work with you out of your drop camp, fees and availability are set on an individual basis. Contact us if you want to explore this opportunity.

We offer very limited hunting for deer; this is not a recommended deer camp, however you can purchase a bear tag to go with your elk tag. This area also now offers a very limited moose draw, contact us if you would like a help with your moose hunt.

We cannot guarantee you an elk, but we would like you to know we will do our very best to provide you with an excellent ride in, great camp and our knowledge that there are elk close to your camp. We will share out knowledge of where we think they might be, and offer you all the encouragement we can for you to go get one. We want you to come back!
